PORTUGAL - SPORT ONSIGHT SPORT - BURACAS DO CAGIMIL POSITION: A series of limestone cliffs in a very hidden valley to the south of Coimbra in central Portugal. There are three separate areas to this cliff. There is a north facing wall up to 25m, above a lovely sheep meadow with rural views and open. There are about 15 routes in the 6b-7a grades, slightly overhanging and very consuming, and a full on pump fest for the forearms. Sector 2 is a series of small caves that offer boulder style short routes that demand the full attention from a grade 7 climber. The most impressive sector is the main 3rd wall and scoop, that has around 15 routes in the 7b and upwards to 8a+ grades. It is an area that is beautiful, but with limited climbing. Not the place to come to tick a lot of routes, but one of those magical places that will remain in your memory forever. Equiocio 8a+; Jerry Moffatt. |
