CLIMBING DYNO-MITE LEARNING TO CLIMB ON INDOOR WALLS This is a full colour book that is ideally suited to helping you learn how to climb at indoor walls, since over 90% of people starting climbing today, will begin this way. The book is aimed at both kids and adults, and is laid out in a very clear and illustrated fashion. The book has been written and structured to run alongside most of the introductory courses that indoor walls offer, and will serve as an excellent text and photo reference book. NOT JUST INDOORS This extremely comprehensive book, fully graduates onto outdoor bouldering and lead sport climbing, with tips and illustrations from many of the worlds top climbers. It is simply, the most up to date and dynamic book on the market for learning. SPECIFIC LEARNING The book deals comprehensively with every area of indoor climbing walls. All of the climbing moves are illustrated, from old fashioned laybacks to new wave guppy hooks. Indoor and outdoor bouldering is dealt with in great detail and virtually covers every conceivable move. All climbing photos illustrate highly experienced climbers that are greatly skilled in technique, and demonstrate clearly all aspects of body movement and important key points. Whilst many of the climbers are world class, the writing of the book has been sensibly measured - to fully help those people, who may not be so strong or flexible and these top climbers. This main point of this teaching method, is to perfect anyone's fine climbing technique, thereby acquiring a superb platform from which to tackle more hazardous outdoor lead climbing. MODULAR LAYOUT The book is laid out in a modular structure, to facilitate the clear differences in climbing - of bouldering, top rope climbing, lead sport climbing indoors, and other aspects of outdoor sport climbing such as multi pitch climbing on the big European canyons. These individual modules enable easier understanding, and allows the reader to firmly concentrate on either climbing technique, or equipment and safety. It also makes referring back to any part, far easier for the novice or learner. GIVE IT A GO SESSION - TO ADVANCED The book begins with a casual give-it-a-go session at a climbing wall, which naturally flows into indoor bouldering (module 1). This then is developed into outdoor bouldering skills from major bouldering areas of Europe such as Fontainebleau and the Peak District (module 2). All techniques of becoming an expert boulderer are covered, with indoor woodies and fierce roof grottos (module 3). Indoor top rope climbing is dealt with separately, and then flows into indoor lead climbing (module 4). Only after all of these parts, is outdoor lead sport climbing introduced. This is illustrated in fine detail in both climbing technique and safety aspects of routes around Europe. The book covers advanced sport routes such as the multi pitch routes in the major French canyons (module 5). We also then take a climber up each grade showing them how to cope with different levels of climbing (module 6). VIA FERRATA The book includes several appendix sections that cover different indoor walls to visit and try out. It also shows a good selection of European climbing venues to know about and plan a visit to. There is also a full appendix on the techniques used in Via Ferrata climbing. This can also be invaluable on a first visit to the Alps and covers an essential area for the new development of many Via Ferrata routes all across Europe. The specific climbing areas of classic and alpine climbing, ice climbing and expedition climbing, are not dealt with in this book, and have been reserved for a future specific title on 'high risk' climbing styles. |
