Avignon Soleil Topo Guide CORNEIRETTE The secret crag south of Carpentras that is quiet and pretty funky. The rock is definitely very dodgy in parts, and yet very good in other sections. It's not a cliff for the hesitant or suspicious, and the belayer has to watch out for loose flakes heading down to earth at a rapid rate. The plus side is that it has an ideal position for this hot area. Most of the cliff stays in the shade for the morning, and the big 7a /c walls stay in the shade until 3 in the afternoon - when they never get that hot anyway. There is a giant cave with a couple of grade 8 excursions that stay dry in almost any weather. The climbing is mainly technical and very pumpy - ideal for those who can crimp well for a long time and have excellent stamina - not so good for the jug hauling tubbies. It's only 10 mins from the other cliffs at Venasque and of completely different character. Photo: LA VIE EST BELLE 6c- Climber: Carrie Atchison-Jones |
